Sam wondered if she was lying. "No really, I'll just go." He pulled his bag over his shoulder and got up. "It was nice...to meet you." He was about to put his hand out to shake hers, but he decided against it. He began to leave the shop, flustered.

Lydia jumped up after him. She grabbed his arm, surprised at herself. "Don't leave me alone, please." she whispered. "People always leave..."

Sam looked at Lydia, surprised at her sad expression. He didn't know what to do, but he had to do something. "You could come with me back to my place. Not, like, in a weird way, but just..." This had gone a lot better in his head. "I mean, you don't have to."

"Oh, no way. I don't have anything to do, anyway." Sam didn't know how to feel, but he settled on happy. "I have an apartment at the Jade building," he explained, walking with her. "It's not too far from here." And they walked down the sidewalk together.
