"In Emerald Valley; a little over six or seven months. I lived a few towns away from here before I became a vampire." He felt the pain of his parents death wash over him, and the memories of the young man who had changed him flashed in his mind's eye.

"If you don't mind me asking," Lydia began curiously. "How did you become a vampire?" She didn't want to sound insensitive, so she added,"Unless its too painful. We can talk about something else."

Sam blinked. His eyes had a glazed look to them. "I was getting my sixteenth birthday present," he started. "My brand new car. But, somebody caused an accident. He was a vampire. My...my parents were killed in the accident, along with five other people in three other cars. I was the only survivor and he changed me. Not on purpose, and he kept apologizing as he took me away from the accident. But I never learned his name, although I can remember his face so clearly." He turned and reached into his bag, pulled out a folder and grabbed one of the pictures. It showed a tall, young man with black hair partly covering his pitch black eyes. He looked scared, angry, worried. Sam passed the picture to Lydia. "I have dozens of pictures like this back at my apartment." He looked at his gloved hands in his lap.

Lydia took the picture gently in her hands, examining it. "I've never seen him before." she murmured but then smiled. "But I'll look. I'm sure you want to meet him and learn his name, of course."

Sam nodded slowly. "He's the only reason I'm still living. But he's also made my life a living hell. I don't know what I would say if I met him." He twiddled his thumbs and looked up at Lydia. "You don't have to find him for me," he said kindly. "This is a small enough town that we'll run into each other on the street someday." He didn't want her spending time for him. Time she could be using for personal needs of hers. She probably had other friends. He looked back at his hands sadly.

Lydia shrugged. "Well, I dont mind. Anything to help a friend." she said happily. She studied the picture in detail.

Sam sat there awkwardly. He didn't know what else to say. He got many ideas, but none of them seemed like it would fit into this conversation. He was going to ask her to go to his apartment, but that would be taken the wrong way. He had more drawings on his walls, so maybe she could recognize him better. He sighed, feeling a small headache emerging. What do I say?

Layla smiled and gently slipped the drawing back to him. "You really ARE an amazing drawer." she murmured.

Sam felt himself blush. He looked away, trying not to let her see. "I've had lots of time to practice," he replied.

Lydia giggled. "No need to be shy about it." she insisted. "And maybe you could teach me something." she said, shy now herself.

Sam nodded, turning back to look at her. He felt like he should sketch her, so he wouldn't forget. But he felt awkward and kind of sat there, staring at her.

Lydia looked down at her hands, kicking her feet. "I can go... If that's what you want." she offered softly.

"No!" he shouted, getting stares from the guy behind the counter and a couple customers. "I mean, uh. Dammit, I'm sorry."

Layla giggled softly. "Alright, then." she mumbled and looked around the shop. "No need to swear... And yell so loud."

Sam blushed again. "You probably want to go now that I've screamed in your face. I'm not really a people person."
