Gabbie sat in the shade of the buildings, running her fingers along her patched up flute. The flute had been hers forever, and forever was a long time. But to an immortal vampire, forever was simply their lifetime. She sighed softly and pushed her golden hair from her eyes. She thought back to everyone. To Gray, that annoying stalker human, then to River, probably her only friend. Even if Gray got on her last nerve, he wasn't a bad guy. But those two humans wouldn't last long in her world of forever. They would merely be a faded memory 100 years from now.

Ray was walking with Ash, both of them bored. "You could always try harder," Ash told him. "It's not that hard to try." Ray groaned. "I thought we've already been over this. It's different for you than it is for me. I've been doing the same thing for two or three years now, you've only been at this for a few months." Ash rolled his eyes. He knew it was different, but he kept denying it. He glanced at his brother, realizing he stopped walking. He had the expression on his face that Ash only knew too well. "I won't let this happen again. Not so soon, Ray." Ray shook his head, his hands shaking at his sides. "Ray," Ash repeated, "I won't let this happen so soon after Christopher."

Gabbie heard voices that she had never heard before. She gripped her flute gently and brought it close to her. She didn't want to be bothered, especially on a day where all she wanted to do was think. She crawled a bit further into the shadow's, only to crush a stick, making the already tense silence more intense. Her eyes searched wildly for cover, but she found none.

Ash reached for his brother's hand, but he had already run toward whoever he had found. He ran after him, looking for Ray.
Ray was racing toward the girl Gabbie, he thought as he got closer. Then, he spotted her. A small girl, cowering in front of him. He tried to tell himself not to, but his conscience was as quiet as the wind that day. He heard his brother searching for him, getting closer. He decided that now would be his chance. And he took it. He walked forward and knelt down next to her. "Another vampire," he said thoughtfully. "Oh well."

Gabbie had already backed up against the wall. "Go away." she snapped, her eyes blazing with anger. This vampire did not smell very friendly. He had the stench of others fear protruding off of him. "I don't know what you want, but I don't want you here."

Trust me, I don't want to be here either. He leaned over until he was just inches away from her face. "Really?" he asked. "Now, why is it that I hear that all the time I wonder."
Ash came running, seeing the girl and his brother leaning toward her. "Ray, don't!" But he wasn't there in time. He ran at Ray as he opened his mouth and bit the girl's neck.

Gabbie's eyes were wide and she pressed herself against the wall. When the guy bit her, she screamed and pushed him away. "Freak!" she shouted. "I'm already a vampire!" She gripped her flute even tighter in anger.

Ray sighed. "I've already established that." He licked the blood around his mouth. Then Ash tackled him. "What the hell?!" Ray shouted.
Ash turned to the girl. "I'm very sorry. He can get out of hand sometimes..." He saw the gash in her neck from Ray's teeth. He wondered why Ray went after vampires when there were plenty of humans in the town. The smell was different to him, almost inviting.
"See, I told you. Not so easy now, is it?" Ray whispered in Ash's ear.

Gabbie wiped the blood from her gash and held her hand there. "It better heal." she mumbled. "I get attacked enough as it is, and a bleeding gash isn't going to help." She abandoned her flute on the ground to push her hair from her eyes again.

Ray shoved Ash off of him and got up, brushing off his pants. His eyes were as black as midnight, and so were Ash's as he stared at her wound. "It might not need to heal," Ray told her, raising his eyebrows. Ash tilted his head to the side, he was almost to the point of drooling.

It took Gabbie a moment to realize what he had meant. She narrowed her eyes. "You wouldn't." She threatened, wrinkling her brow in fury.

"Who knows what he'll do? I've never seen him like this before." Ray shrugged, patting his brother on the shoulder. Ash only twitched, before slowly crawling over to Gabbie. He leaned toward her wound at turtle pace, breathing heavily. "Don't get physical with him, or he'll definitely hurt you," Ray warned.

Gabbie pressed herself against the wall, watching him. "Please get him away from me." she whispered. "It's quite uncomfortable, and quite frankly, I'm terrified."

Ray snickered. Ash opened his mouth, still breathing hard. He paused, his mind racing. I'm becoming a monster, he thought, memories of watching Ray kill the innocent fresh in his mind. I'm a killer. He suddenly bit down on Gabbie's wound. Hard. Her blood filled his mouth. Ray stared at him, shocked by the memories that he had seen. Ash kept a tight grip on Gabbie's arms so she couldn't struggle.

Gabbie tensed up, grabbing her flute. "Please don't!" she begged softly. "I never enjoyed life, no, but I don't want to die."
